Descent of the Goddess

All down the ages
the goddess descends
to be flayed, burned to ash,
dis-membered, pricked,
she loses her naivete quick.
Sometimes it's just stale, flat, dark,
others the agony so sharp.

And always she ascends,
re-membering everything,
a sudden sseeing
and being received
with new eyes:
a world in bloon,
certain ideas beginning
to take hold,
gifts for the world.
